Dr Katie Owen is an early career researcher in the Translational Prostate Cancer Research group at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. Dr Owen’s work on tumour-intrinsic type I interferon signalling in bone-metastatic castrate resistant prostate cancer has led to the discovery of a novel immune-based combinatorial approaches that decrease bone-metastatic outgrowth and enhance the effectiveness of agents aimed at systemic immune activation. Stemming from this research, she is now focused on the development of immune signalling biomarkers of bone metastasis and how tumour-intrinsic immune signalling and suppressor proteins impact prostate cancer progression to bone and therapeutic resistance—work which includes exploring theranostic strategies to alter survival outcomes for prostate cancer patients. Dr Owen is a recipient of the PCFA Priority Impact Research Award (Young Investigator, 2021) and a PCFA Future Leaders Fellowship (2022).
